India Supreme Court research shows regional bias

High court litigation in India is more likely to end in the Supreme Court in states geographically nearer to the country's capital, New Delhi, a research paper has revealed.

Which way to New Delhi?

The analysis of almost 60 years of cases pending in the Supreme Court also revealed a host of other trends, including that company, tax, mining and public interest cases suffer the longest wait times.
The report – ‘The Indian Supreme Court by the Numbers’ -- was published last week by Nick Robinson, a visiting fellow at the Centre for Policy Research at Azim Premji University Bangalore. According to the research – reported by Legally India – A Delhi high court case is three times more likely than a Bombay high court case to end up in the Supreme Court.
