Jones Day builds on bankruptcy success to open Detroit branch

Jones Day is to launch its 17th US office when it opens its doors in the US motor capital - and is likely to be closely associated with the rebirth of the city which recently underwent bankruptcy proceedings under a former Jones Day partner.

The former judicial law clerk who will be partner-in-charge of the office, Timothy Melton, said: 'We are very grateful for the incredible work done by all involved in the recent Chapter 9 proceedings, and the opportunities created for the Detroit community and the Firm as a result of the successful conclusion of the bankruptcy case.' Former Jones Day partner Kevyn Orr was the emergency manager of the city, resigning in December when the city came out of bankruptcy protection.

Full service

Jones Day will have a total of 42 offices worldwide after the Detroit base opens. The new office will be full service. The worldwide practice has some 2,400 lawyers. Source: Jones Day
