Sky News reports that the first ruling officially suspended the game because of fears that debris left by builders at the recently-rebuilt stadium could be used as missiles in the case of a disturbance.
However, a later statement from the Rio state government confirmed the stadium complies with ‘all safety rules’ and a safety certificate was granted.
The 78,000-seat Maracana has been rebuilt at a cost of around £300 million as Brazil gears up to hold next month's Fifa Confederations Cup, next year's football World Cup final and the 2016 Olympics.
