A Florida judge has been disbarred after forming ‘an emotional attachment’ to the prosecutor trying a death row case.
Judge Ana Gardiner and prosecutor Howard Scheinberg exchanged around 1400 text messages and phone calls during the trial. The defendant was convicted and Judge Gardiner granted the prosecutor’s request for the death penalty.
After it came to light, the Judge resigned and had her law license removed whilst the Prosecutor was suspended from practising law for three years.A new judge re-sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment.
