US law firm McDermott Will & Emery has recruited the corporate team of the Milan office of King & Wood Mallesons(KWM). The new arrivals, KWM's Milan managing partner Giancarlo Castorino, former managing partner Ettore Scandale and Emidio Cacciapuoti, are accompanied by a further four counsel and ten fee earners. The moves significantly strengthen the firm’s Italian capabilities in the area of transactions. 'The team’s skillset is principally focused on private equity, M&A, banking and finance, and fund formation, in domestic as well as cross-border transactions. This expertise is fully in line with our strategic plan for further expanding our global Corporate & Transactional practice,' Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice Group, said of the appointments.
Distressed claims
Giancarlo Castorino specialises in banking and finance law, with a particular focus on real estate, property finance, acquisition finance and restructuring. He has assisted numerous major Italian and foreign banks and large companies in relation to a wide range of structured finance transactions. He has also been involved in complex acquisitions and disposals of distressed claims portfolios.
Private equity
Ettore Scandale is an expert in corporate law with a special focus on private equity. He advises national and international corporations, investment funds, financial institutions, family offices across a wide range of sectors, including private equity, financial services, healthcare and life sciences. He also advises on portfolio management, financing and exit strategies.
Regulation
Emidio Cacciapuoti specialises in regulatory aspects of funds and private equity fund structures and carried-interest plans, including taxation. He also deals with tax issues related to financing and securitisation transactions. His clients include domestic and international companies, private equity houses, financial services companies and family offices across a variety of sectors.
Milan office
McDermott Will & Emery has more than 1,000 lawyers globally. Its Milan office will now have nine partners, six counsel, 15 associates and eight trainees.
