Law firms start suing over bad online reviews

A Texas firm has begun a lawsuit against a former client which, according to the firm, made 'disparaging and blatantly false statements' about his relationship with the firm.

Austin-based Grissom & Thompson is one of a number of legal practices taking action after online reviews. In Georgia this year a divorce lawyer was awarded US$405,000 after a former client described her as ‘a CROOK lawyer’ on an online rating site. Writing in the Texas Bar Journal, Dallas lawyer John G Browning says: ‘With the Internet assuming an ever-increasing marketing importance for lawyers, legal analysts are starting to pay more attention to a lawyer’s options and risks in addressing online reviews;’ Source: Wall Street Journal
