Lawyer nominated to lead Ukraine

Arseniy Yatseniuk, the 39-year old lawyer who was nominated to become prime minister last night, was greeted by boos in Independence Square when his name was announced.

As reported in The Global Legal Post, he was previously seen as one of the least likely of the top five leaders to take the helm - but he had considerable experience in the economic area and he was seen well by the US and EU. If his appointment goes through, he will be in negotiations immediately to arrange an international bail out in order to stop the country going bankrupt.  An English speaker, he gave reassurances about preserving the country but speaking about the difficult situation of the new government, he said: 'We are on the brink of disaster.
