Legal departments show vulnerability to phishing attacks

In-house legal units are among the business functions that are 'far more likely to actually open [a phishing] e-mail than all other departments', according to the '2015 Data Breach Investigations Report' from Verizon.

Research from Verizon finds surprisingly high figures for the number of people who are taken in by fake email messages. IT found that 23% open phishing messages and that 11% click on their particularly dangerous attachments.

Time pressure

Karen E Rubin of Thompson Hine LLP suggests four reasons why lawyers are so vulnerable - that they are hungry for clients, trusting, 'must work efficiently and under time pressure' and because 'we sometimes overestimate our tech skills'.
