US legal education firm BARBRI has agreed to acquire AI platform learning tool start-up Lega, helping to scale the latter’s experiential learning model globally.

The integration of Lega’s training platform will enable legal practitioners and students to build AI fluency through practical experiences, including workshops, simulations and hackathons.

Lucie Allen, co-CEO of BARBRI, said: “BARBRI has been building the AI knowledge and competency foundation for the legal profession through SkillBurst and BARBRI AI courses, alongside broader professional education offerings such as BARBRI CLE/CPE and Prep for Practice.

“Lega brings a highly practical model that helps learners move from AI awareness to AI fluency. Together, we are committed to equipping law schools, law firms and legal professionals for an AI-driven profession.”

Christian Lang, founder and CEO of Lega, who will join BARBRI as head of innovation, commented that Lega was built on the belief that legal professionals need “safe, practical, hands-on ways” to explore what AI has to offer.

He added: “Joining BARBRI means we can bring experiential AI learning to every law school, every firm and every professional ready to lead what comes next.”

New York-based Lega was founded by Lang three years ago. He was previously an adviser for business growth consultancy LexFusion.

In 2017, he also founded NY Legal Tech Meetup, a community comprising of lawyers, technologists and other interested parties to discuss legaltech developments.

Lega says it has delivered experimental AI-labs and workshops for Am Law 100 firms, legal technology conferences and innovation summits.

Dallas-headquartered BARBRI has made several other acquisitions to evolve its training and education portfolio.

Last year, it agreed to buy digital learning innovator Quimbee, which develops law school study aids.

In 2024, BARBRI secured a deal to purchase SkillBurst Interactive, a digital learning innovator for law firms.

This followed the acquisition of online legal course provider Strafford four years ago. It also acquired legal training course provider Kaplan Altior in 2019.

Amid its deal activity, BARBRI itself was acquired in 2021 by investment firm Francisco Partners.
