Legal issues top business agenda in South Africa

Legal issues will be among the main issues raised by South African business leaders when they meet President Jacob Zuma next week.

Employment laws and bureaucracy are to be discussed with President Jacob Zuma next week EcoPrint

They will be seeking changes to employment laws and a reduction in bureaucracy. The National Employers association of South Africa has already made it clear that it wants the collective bargaining process to be opened up to make it easier for employers to increase the size of their workforce. Its CEO Gerhard Papenfus this week said: 'If you change section 32 … in order for the minister to be compelled to take into consideration the interests of small business at the collective bargaining council before extending an agreement, the whole ball game will be changed.' Other areas that will be discussed, says Business Day Live, are education, skills development and investment.
