Lengthy recruitment process turns off legal professionals

Seven out of ten legal professionals are put off a job if there is a long recruitment process, recent research has revealed.

Applicants put off by long wait

The survey, undertaken by recruitment specialist Robert Walters, found that a similar percentage also expected the complete process – from application to job offer – to take four weeks or less.

Feedback

However, only 25 per cent of employers said the process would take this long in reality.
The research, based on survey responses from more than 1,300 professionals and 250 hiring managers, found that 88 per cent of those who applied for a job received no feedback, while 56 per cent had been giving an interview but then not updated on their performance.
Over 90 per cent of responders said they would discuss their recruitment experiences with friends and colleagues.

Reputation

Colin Loth, Director of Legal Recruitment at Robert Walters, commented: ‘Legal professionals who apply for jobs like the recruitment process to move quickly and many would turn down a role if it took too long… Failure to comply with these wishes can clearly impact an employer’s reputation in the market.’
