London-based boutique Three Points Law has hired former KPMG Law partner Usman Wahid to bolster its tech-driven offering.

Wahid joins as a partner, bringing more than 20 years of experience in legal technology, having spent five years at KPMG Law as head of the technology and data legal team until 2024. Prior to his time at KPMG, he spent more than 14 years at legacy firm Berwin Leighton Paisner, almost five-and-a-half of them as a partner.

In January last year, he co-founded AI legal platform VennSpace, which provides solutions for procurement and supply chain management. VennSpace’s technology will be integrated into the recently launched Three Points Flow service line, helping expand its offering to larger institutional in-house legal and procurement teams.

In his new role, Wahid will concentrate on deals involving fintech and other business-to-business tech agreements, along with digital transformation and outsourcing projects.

He said: “Having followed the ground-breaking approach that Three Points has taken to delivering legal services since launch, I am incredibly excited to be joining in this exciting stage of the firm’s journey.

“The firm has a clear mission to combine top-level legal experience with some of the most innovative legaltech tools from around the world and ultimately deliver a more seamless and cost-effective service for the benefit of its growing list of clients.”

Simon Leaf, co-founder of Three Points Law, praised Wahid for being “a recognised leader” in technology law and innovation.

He added: “When we heard there was an opportunity for him to join us and for us to incorporate VennSpace into our own offering, we seized the moment. This is a real coup for us and our clients in this exciting growth phase for the firm.”

Three Points Law focuses on technology, sports and commercial/IP law, assisting clients by using AI-powered contract analysis and automated compliance monitoring.

The firm was founded in October last year by former Mishcon de Reya lawyers Simon Leaf and Tom Murray.

Leaf was a partner at Mishcon de Reya for almost nine years, where he specialised in technology and sports law. Before that, like Wahid, he practised at Berwin Leighton Paisner for six-and-a-half years, where he was an associate in the commercial, technology, media and telecommunications and sport teams.

Murray also worked for Mishcon de Reya for just over nine years, where most recently he was a legal director.

Both have experience of high-profile sports mandates, recently advising Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford on his loan moves to Aston Villa and Barcelona.

Three Points Law said it had more than a dozen founder clients when it launched last year.
