The dispute began when – after being awarded her gold medal – the Ohio-born athlete claimed her parents had mismanaged her finances and had knowingly allowed a boy who had previously molested her into their home.
Ms Madison’s parents rejected the claims, according to The Daily Mail newspaper and assert that they have spent about $100,000 supporting their daughter’s athletic endeavours. They are now suing Tianna for defamation.
The Madisons’ lawyer, Scott Schooler from Forbes Fields & Associates in Cleveland, stated that his clients are only trying to reunite with their daughter, and see the lawsuit as a ‘wake-up call’. ‘They are not seeking any financial gain,’
he added.
