The firm has appointed Su Akgun as its first ever diversity and wellbeing manager. Ms Akgun joined the firm from AXA Wealth earlier this year and will be tasked with overseeing the ‘diversity and wellbeing’ arm of Osborne Clarke’s new three-track 2020 strategy. Among Ms Akgun’s managerial remit will be improving family and work-life balance, improving retention of female talent and nurturing social mobility. According to figures provided to The Lawyer earlier this year, women comprise just 17 per cent of Osborne Clarke’s partnership.

‘There is a war for talent and we need to be seen as supporting initiatives that promote diversity,’ said UK managing partner Ray Berg of the firm’s strategic agenda, which will also prioritise building strong client relationships and developing the firm’s sector approach. Osborne Clarke has significantly expanded over the last five years, establishing presences in India, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and San Francisco, among others.

For Mr Berg, the firm’s ‘sharpening of focus’ on diversity, wellbeing and relationships is a natural progression following Osborne Clarke’s global rise. ‘Between 2010 and 2015 we built the international platform and we’re now onto the next stage,’ he said. ‘So we’ve thought about how we’re going to do it and we’re going to work with what we’ve got.’ Source: The Lawyer
