Patton Boggs cuts merger talks with Locke Lord

Washington-based Patton Boggs has pulled back from merger discussions with Locke Lord of Texas, according to sources who have talked to Reuters.

Merger talks have ceased, reportedly over Patton Boggs' worries about being swallowed up by the larger firm Dmitry Fisher

The merger would have created the 36th largest law firm in the US. Discussions began in October, according to the Reuters sources. Patton Boggs, well known for its political lobbying work, has 500 professionals, and Lock Lord of Dallas has some 650. The firms have not commented in public. But the sources suggest that Patton Boggs was worried about being swallowed up by the larger firm and losing some of its identity. Source: Reuters
