Patton Boggs makes second round of lay-offs

Patton Boggs, the Washington law firm which is in merger talks with Locke Lord, is seeking to save US$5.5m in salary costs by laying off another 10 partners and 36 employees.

The news follows a 6.5 per cent  turnover slump in its latest annual results and a first round of redundancies, including the department of 20 partners, in the spring. Managing partner Edward Newberry is quoted in The Wall Street Journal as saying: 'We’re doing all the things a firm should do to adjust to a very difficult environment.'
