Two US law professors have created a legal framework which would allow a network of  companies to share their patents and agree to not initiate patent lawsuits, a move aimed at helping technology companies share information. The new Defensive Patent License could see companies agreeing not to initiate patent infringement suits in return for free access to all the patents held by other companies signing a defensive license. If enacted by companies, it could lead to a decline in patent litigation, the professors, Jennifer Urban from UC Berkeley School of Law and Jason Shultz from New York University School of Law, say.
