Rapper takes on Facebook over copyright breach

Social media platform Facebook is being sued by the music company representing US rap superstar Eminem over an alleged copyright infringement.

Eminem: copyright issues

Eminem’s record label Eight Mile Style is claiming that Facebook used music in an advert released at an April event that sounded ‘substantially similar’ to Eminem's track 'Under The Influence' without getting permission first, reports NME.
Facebook’s advert was used to promote the social network's new mobile software. It was first released online before the company changed the background music and re-released the video.

Maximum damages

Eight Mile Style alleges that Facebook’s advertising agency used the song to please the social network’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, who is reportedly a fan of the rapper.
However, lawyers representing Facebook have claimed that the song actually sounds like a Michael Jackson track, which they say makes it exempt from copyright infringement.
The record label replied that Facebook’s claims are ‘bizarre allegations’, adding it will seek maximum damages of $150,000.
