Basama joins Reed Smith after more than three years at K&S, where he was a senior associate, and will be based across its Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices.
He advises sovereign wealth funds, family offices, private equity funds and corporates on cross-border M&A, joint ventures, reorganisations and corporate governance matters throughout the region, with extensive experience advising leading regional investors and corporates.
Mike Young, EME co-chair of Reed Smith’s global corporate group, said Basama’s arrival continued the “strong momentum” the firm was building across its EMEA corporate practice, Reed Smith having hired Saudi Arabia-based partners Mohammed Alammar and Anmar Algharifi from independent firm AlAmmar Law in March and a six-lawyer team in Germany from Dentons in April.
Young singled out Basama’s "well-established track record advising on Saudi-related mandates alongside his UAE practice", adding: “As demand continues to grow for sophisticated cross-border advice across the Gulf, his profile, relationships and regional expertise will strengthen both our Middle East offering and our ability to deliver seamlessly for clients across our international platform."
Basama will work closely with Alammar and Algharifi as well as Middle East managing partner and corporate lawyer Anders Nilsson, who joined Reed Smith from Bird & Bird in November 2025 and oversees the firm's three Middle East offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, where the firm set up shop in October 2024.
Before joining K&S, Basama spent four years at White & Case and two at Stephenson Harwood, having trained and qualified at legacy firm Taylor Wessing.
