Historic attitudes favouring globalisation are fundamentally changing....
Mr Solc says challenges exist for Russia in relation to ‘the quality and functionality of laws, the quality of the judiciary, decreasing bureaucracy and increasing flexibility within the system.’ Law is more than merely law firms, the IBA Secretary General said in an interview with the Russian Legal Information Agency.
International standards
Mr Solc, who is a partner at leading Czech Republic law firm Kocian Solc Balastik, said that there is ‘still a level of isolation that’s not impossible to overcome, it’s not a feature of the system’. However, he pointed out that in the last 15 years the Russian legal market had ‘evolved to fit a more international standard.’ It is also ‘more sophisticated’ he said.
Mr Solc was in Kiev attending the 8th Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Local Counsel Forum.
