Women lawyers earn 87 per cent as much as their male counterparts and are 50 per cent more likely to work in lower-paid public interest jobs. When women leave law firms, they are ten times more likely to attribute leaving to dependent care responsibilities. The research was compiled for Washington University. It also points to the American Bar Association's Presidential Task Force on Gender Equality and its Commission on Women in the Profession which has recommendations to help eliminate disparity, including telling law firm to put all compensation factors in writing and keep records of men and women at every level.
