The appointment is another step in Sidley’s leadership succession plan, which began last year with the announcement that Carter Phillips would succeed Thomas Cole as chair of the executive committee this month.
Firm policies
The management committee is responsible for administering the firm’s current operations and reports to Sidley’s executive committee, which exercises general authority over firm policies and affairs.
Mr Barden, a partner in the corporate practice group in Sidley’s Chicago office and one of the global coordinators of the firm’s securities practice, commented: ‘I have had the pleasure of working alongside Chuck in my current role as a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and look forward to his guidance as I take on this additional responsibility. In keeping with the Firm’s tradition, I will also maintain my active practice.’
Leadership skills
Mr Phillips added: ‘Larry’s proven abilities as a lawyer, coupled with his strong leadership skills, make him extremely well-suited for this role and I could not be happier that he was selected for this honour and agreed to take on the responsibilities.’
