The international law firm confirmed that eight UK trainees were offered full time positions, with seven accepting. Simmons & Simmons also confirmed to Legal Cheek nine trainees ‘went through’ the qualification process, but would not disclose how many actually started it.
Six trainees did not complete their training contracts at the firm in the previous retention round last autumn. And Simmons & Simmons is not the only firm to have experienced this, with drop outs blighting firms’ retention figures this year. Two trainees at corporate giant Berwin Leighton Paisner left midway through their training contracts, one apparently to pursue a career as a teacher and the other to join another firm. BLP included them in its spring figure, for a lowly 70 per cent retention rate.
The seven associates who have committed themselves to Simmons & Simmons will start on £68,000. Sources: Legal Cheek; Roll on Friday
