Singapore launches International Commercial Court

Eleven international judges have been appointed to the new Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) which was formally launched today.

The court is seen as complementing the arbitration sector in Singapore. The SICC 'might even expand the scope for internationalising Singapore law', said Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon as he opened the court. A committee has been established at the Singapore Academy of Law to look at ways to promote the transnational convergence of commercial laws in Asia.
