Singapore consults on proposed takeover of broadband network provider Asharkyu

OpenNet - which will play a key role in Next Gen NBN, the next generation nationwide broadband network - is due to be bought by a subsidiary of SingTel. SingTel already owns a privately-funded broadband network. Infocomm is concerned about the impact on competition and the public interest.

Bryan Tan of Pinsent Masons is quoted on the Pinsent Masons news analysis site, Out-Law.com, as saying: 'Retail service providers for next-generation fibre broadband services have been complaining about high prices and slow service availability. You can sense the unhappiness from the other telcos about OpenNet and they look as if they will weigh in with their views through this consultation.'
