Top 20 UK law firm Slaughter and May has established a digital regulation practice, in response to growing client demand and the boom in artificial intelligence.

The team will be led by Will Manley, a technology and digital lawyer based in the firm’s Brussels office.

Lawyers specialising in technology, data, IP and competition at the firm’s London, Brussels, Hong Kong and Beijing offices will advise clients worldwide on matters including the regulation of digital platforms, and the regulation of AI and online content.

“Digital… and AI, regulation is a huge focus for many of our clients,” said Manley, whose clients have included Meta and Google. “At times it seems that this landscape gets more complicated by the day, so our job is to help clients navigate these rules in a commercial, low-friction way.”

Jordan Ellison, a Slaughters partner and co-head of its technology group, said: “With major regimes coming into force, such as the EU’s AI Act, and the stronger enforcement of online rules in Europe and the UK, and with AI touching ever more areas of the economy, international clients face unprecedented regulatory complexity.”
