Squire Patton Boggs has appointed two partners to lead its US operations as global managing partners
Peter Gould and Traci Martinez are replacing Michele Connell, who will return to practice after serving as global managing partner of the US LLP, which accounts for 36 of the firm's 48 offices, since 2021.
Gould heads the US LLP's environmental, safety, and health practice group and serves as managing partner of the Denver office. A specialist in crisis management, he advises clients across various sectors on administrative law, government investigations, dispute resolution, and public policy.
Martinez is a member of the firm’s global board and manages the Columbus, Georgia, office. She is a nationally recognised litigator and trial advocate with a strong history of community leadership.
"Peter and Traci are outstanding leaders who embody the collaborative, client-focused culture that defines our firm,” said chair and global CEO Mark Ruehlmann.
“Together, they bring complementary strengths, trusted relationships across our global platform and a shared commitment to investing in our people and delivering exceptional service to clients. The trajectory of our firm has never been stronger, and I know Peter and Traci will help successfully lead us as we build on that momentum and continue positioning the firm for long-term success.”
Ruehlmann also paid tribute to Connell, praising her for helping to "sharpen our strategic focus and drive sustained performance across our business”.
Gould said: “It is an exciting time to step into this role and continue to position the firm to provide the strategic counsel our clients need to succeed.”
Martinez added: “As the legal market continues to evolve, our firm is exceptionally well positioned to capitalise on new opportunities through the strength and scale of our global platform, our outstanding people and our unwavering focus on our clients."
In May, London IP partner Andrew Wilkinson took over from Leeds-based private equity specialist Jonathan Jones as managing partner of the firm's European arm.
During Jones's and Connell's tenures as managing partners of the firm's US and European arms, the firm opened 13 new offices, including in Amsterdam, Astana, Baku, Dublin, and Geneva.
In 2025, the firm’s global revenue climbed by 9% to hit $1.36bn, with profit-per-equity partner standing at $2.3m, according to Law.com.
