There have been 39 law firm combinations announced in H1 of 2014, about the same volume as there was in the first half of 2013, according to Altman Weil.

The Altman Weil MergerLine also shows that there were 17 such transactions in Q2 of this year. The largest was the merger that created Squire Patton Boggs in June. Ward Bower of Altman Weil said: ‘This pattern of one or two big combinations per quarter along with a large number of small, safe deals has emerged since the recession.
