Stephenson Harwood culls alliance in Myanmar

Stephenson Harwood has wrapped up its Myanmar alliance 'by mutual consent' ahead of launching its own office in the region.

Yangon, Myanmar Iakhesis

Stephenson Harwood forged its alliance with local firm U Tin Yu & Associates in May 2013, making it the first UK firm to establish a presence in Myanmar after the signing of the country’s Foreign Investment Law at the end of 2014. While the firm’s future strategy in the country are not yet clear, it is expected to launch its own office before the end of this year. However, Stephenson Harwood’s local lawyers will no longer operate in association with those of U Tin Yu. Chief executive Sharon White commented in The Lawyer: ‘[Myanmar] is an increasingly attractive target for investment and we will continue providing our client with the high quality legal advice they expect. To improve the quality and service we provide clients, the firm has decided that it’s the right time to establish a presence in the country.’
