Stephenson Harwood seals Myanmar tie-up

City law firm Stephenson Harwood has become the first UK law firm to enter the Myanmar market after unveiling an association deal with local firm U Tin Yu & Associates.

Myanmar: Stephenson Harwood makes move

The deal is the latest in a series of associations between international firms and local firms as the jurisdiction opens its market following the signing of the Foreign Investment Law last November.

Local knowledge

In a press release, Sharon White, chief executive of Stephenson Harwood, commented: ‘U Tin Yu & Associates has a respected and established local presence in Myanmar, and this new association enables both firms to broaden their client offering. We are seeing an increased interest in Myanmar from our clients and I am glad that we are now able to offer local knowledge and expertise from within the country.’
U Tin Yu & Associates specialises in a number of areas, including corporate and commercial matters, litigation, real estate, IP and employment law.
U Tin Yu & Associates founder partner, U Tin Yu added: ‘As Myanmar opens its doors to the outside world we will require assistance in offering tailored legal advice to foreign companies who will have little or no experience in the country.’
