The finding is revealed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority as part of its work on training. Giving extra training is being promoted as a way to prevent such lapses in standards. The research was based on a survey of 750 practices. Of the 19 per cent accepting failures, nearly two thirds admitted to four or fewer such incidents.
