Top firm said to be paying US$9m pa to lateral hire

Kirkland & Lewis has reportedly agreed to pay litigation rainmaker James Hurst, formerly of Winston & Strawn, $9m a year for four years.

Chicago-based Mr Hurst chaired the litigation team at Winston & Strawn and represented some of the biggest pharma companies in the world. A compensation package of this size is seen as extraordinary, according to law firm consultant Bruce MacEwen in conversation with Reuters Legal. Other sources have said that Kirkland has agreed high compensation deals with other lateral hires. Source: ABA
