American-Irish indoor climate tech business Trane Technologies has hired Victoria Lazar as general counsel, replacing Evan Turtz who is retiring in October.

Lazar was most recently chief legal officer at engineering and tech business TechnipFMC and is a board member at US cleantech company InnoVent Renewables. At Trane Technologies she will oversee all legal and compliance activities globally, reporting directly to CEO and chair Dave Regnery as part of the enterprise leadership team. She will be based in Davidson, North Carolina.

Swords, Ireland-headquartered Trane Technologies makes indoor heating, cooling and ventilation systems and other building-related climate control tech.

Regnery said: “Victoria is a highly experienced business and legal executive, bringing deep expertise in corporate governance, strategic transactions, enterprise risk management, sustainability matters, global operations and regulatory compliance and reporting. Her proven leadership and perspective will be invaluable as we continue to innovate, create value for our stakeholders and advance our purpose-driven strategy around sustainability.”

Lazar spent just under three years at TechnipFMC, having previously been GC at offshore oil and gas transportation business Bristow Group. She also had spells at GE as executive counsel for M&A and Baker Hughes as associate GC in addition to an earlier stint at GE in its oil and gas unit as associate GC for drilling, production and surface, and associate GC for its Americas business.

Her first in-house role was at Electronic Data Systems, working her way up to global CLO for its ExcellerateHRO business. She started her career in private practice at Baker Botts.

Turtz, meanwhile, is set to retire after 21 years with the company, the majority of those years at its predecessor firm Ingersoll Rand before it spun out its climate business into Trane Technologies in 2020. Turtz became GC in 2019 and was instrumental in guiding that transition, the company said.

Regnery added: “Evan has helped to shape our company’s uplifting, ethical culture through his steadfast commitment to compliance and integrity. We are grateful for his many contributions to Trane Technologies as general counsel and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Earlier this year, US conglomerate Honeywell – whose business lines include building automation tech – promoted Su Ping Lu to GC, having led the legal team for its international unit.
