US moving and relocation services company Sirva Worldwide has hired Lauren Aste as chief legal officer, succeeding general counsel Jeff Margolis.

Aste joins from business travel company CWT, where she was also CLO. Aste brings more than two decades of legal and compliance leadership experience to her new role. Her legal expertise spans corporate finance, strategic M&A, restructuring, investor relations, privacy, employee matters, regulatory affairs, risk management, corporate social responsibility, litigation and governance.

Chicago-based Sirva is a global household and commercial moving and relocation services business.

Carlyn Taylor, Sirva’s CEO, said “Lauren brings a unique set of legal, transactional and strategic skills to our general counsel role that will help us accomplish our imperatives of speed, technology innovation, operational excellence and exceptional customer service on a global scale.”

Taylor added that she expects Aste to having a meaningful impact on the company’s growth strategy and to support its international expansion.

Aste arrives after 18 years at CWT, roughly nine of them as CLO. She originally joined in 2007 as assistant GC, working her way up to deputy GC and GC before being promoted to the CLO role at the start of 2017.

Prior to her time at CWT, she spent two-and-a-half years as a senior associate at Dechert in London and six years as an associate at Chadbourne & Parke in New York.

She said: “Having lived and worked in multiple countries and personally experienced the value of global mobility and cross-cultural exchange, I am passionate about Sirva’s mission and guiding principles – to be smart, helpful, human and responsible – as well as its people-centred approach.

“I look forward to bringing my experience to support Sirva in driving innovation across the global mobility industry and achieving positive outcomes for all its stakeholders.”

Margolis, meanwhile, is stepping down from the role after almost three decades with Sirva, having joined the company back in 1996.

In other transport-related moves, last month car rental giant Hertz hired Homebound legal chief Piero Bussani as its CLO, replacing GC Katherine Lee Martin who left in August. While in July, US student transport business Zum hired JoAnn Covington as GC from US robocar start-up Glydways.
