Cooley makes fast progress in UK energy market

Within two months of opening its London base, California-based Cooley has started to act for the UK's largest shale gas explorer, IGas - on a project which sees the 55-lawyer office working alongside Slaughter and May.

Cooleys has taken on a shale gas client in its new London office Nightman1965

The mandate will help the London team deliver on a goal through which it is meant to generate 70 per cent of its assignments domestically, with only 30 per cent coming as referrals from the US. Crucial to the win of the contract is Ed Lukins who joined Cooley from Morrison & Foerster. He also advised IGas at MoFo. The firm is advising on a £168m deal which allows the Slaughter and May client, INEOS, access to various IGas sites and hands over a shale gas licence in Scotland. Source: Legal Business
