Dentons picks up prominent LGBT advocate

Evan Wolfson, one of the legal architects behind the campaign to legalise same-sex marriage in the United States, is coming on as a senior counsel at the global megafirm.

Dentons has announced that he will be joining the firm’s office in New York as a senior counsel, focusing his practice on counseling Dentons’ clients on human rights issues and improving the firm’s own diversity initiatives. The founder of Washington-based advocacy group Freedom to Marry, Mr Wolfson has dedicated his legal expertise to leading the fight for marriage equality in the United States through strategic litigation across the country, ever since penning his Harvard Law School thesis on the subject of same-sex marriage in 1983. Now, following a landmark ruling on same-sex marriage from the Supreme Court last year, he has taken up an offer from his cousin, Dentons’ co-chief executive Peter Wolfson, to join the world’s largest law firm. ‘Dentons’ commitment to inclusion, diversity, and serving good causes makes it a good fit with the other projects I am taking on here in the US and globally,’ he said of the switch to BigLaw.
