Former US Senator returns to law at New Orleans energy practice

Former US Senator David Vitter, who left the Senate in January after two terms and 25 years in elected office, has made a return to practicing law by joining the New Orleans office of Butler Snow - a firm with a focus on energy issues.

Mike Flippo

Firm Chairman, Donald Clark Jr cited Mr Vitter's background in politics and policy work as being a valuable new asset to the company. However, Mr Vitter also will keep his lobbying job with Mercury LLC which will mean he will share his time between Washington and Louisiana.

Long political career

Mr Vitter was a state representative before being elected to Congress, where he served for more than five years in the U.S. House before moving up to the Senate. In 2015 he unsuccessfully campaigned for Governor. Butler Snow has more than 20 offices across the US including New York and also has a presence in London and Singapore.
