FTSE 100 in-house legal teams top 10,000 lawyers

The number of lawyers working in FTSE 100 companies is now over 10,000, according to exclusive research from The Lawyer, with the largest in-house teams rivalling private practice law firms in terms of fee-earners.

HSBC bank emerges as the business with the biggest legal team - employing 1,109 legal professionals. This means that it is about the same size as the 12th largest UK law firm (Clyde &Co).

Barclays and Shell

Barclays bank comes second in terms of size with its team of 900, followed by Shell on 700. GlaxoSmithKline, the pharma giant, comes next on 650, followed by BP (550) and Vodafone (500). Source: The Lawyer
