Herbert Smith recruits duo from Linklaters ally to open in South Africa

Herbert Smith Freehills is opening an office in Johannesburg which will be used as a base to reach both anglophone and francophones parts of the African continent.

The new office will be headed by the two lawyers from Webber Wentzel - Brigette Baillie, a finance specialist, and Peter Leon from the mining side. In total, the office will have four partners. As well as Ms Baillie and Mr Leon, there will be two partners relocating to the office - Ed Baring, head of the Russian finance practice and Bertrand Montembault, head of energy and infrastructure in Paris.
