After launching in London last May, Saint Louis-based firm Cordell & Cordell is now eyeing new offices in other major UK cities including Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. The firm, which boasts more than 200 lawyers across 100 offices in the US, is also looking at establishing a presence in Wales. Its London office currently has two solicitors, both male, and is in the process of bringing on a third, female recruit.

A firm for men

Cordell & Cordell specialises in representing men in divorce proceedings and child custody disputes. With a stapline that describes the firm as 'a partner men can count on', the firm needed to make assurances to the Solicitors Regulation Authority in order to build a presence to the United Kingdom. 'They were interested in how many female clients we had whether we made it clear on our website or not that we would gladly represent women, which we do of course,' said US partner Barbara Johnson-Stern. However, she conceded that the London office of Cordell & Cordell has represented only one female client since its launch.
