Originally trained at Herbert Smith Freehills, Mr Hastings has been head of Addelshaw Goddard’s civil fraud practice since 2014. A renowned City fraud specialist, he is best known for representing oligarch Boris Berezovsky on several occasions, including in his $6bn commercial dispute with Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich and in related $3bn Chancery Division claim against the estate of Georgian billionaire Arkady Patarktasishvili and others. It is understood that Mr Hastings will not be bringing across any of his existing ongoing mandates when he joins Quinn Emanuel.

‘Young and hungry’

Mr Hastings is the sixth lateral hire to Quinn Emanuel’s City office so far this year. In September, the firm picked up former Macfarlanes financial services head David Berman, shortly after securing Covington & Burling partner and former Serious Fraud Office prosecutor Robert Amaee in August. Quinn Emanuel London co-managing partner Richard East said of the firm’s latest hire: ‘Mark is exactly the sort of young and hungry litigator that we need to help us take this practice in London to the next level.’ Managing partner John Quinn added: ‘Mark’s civil fraud and commercial litigation practice brings another new dimension to our practice in London. His drive, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial flair will be a big asset for our entire London practice.’
