Birmingham-based multi-disciplinary chambers St Philips Chambers and shipping specialist Stone Chambers have confirmed that they will combine from 1 August to become the second largest chambers in the United Kingdom. The new outfit, to be called St Phillips Stone Chambers, will have nearly 200 members, including 18 QCs. St Philips leader Avtar Khangure told Legal Cheek how the merger offered an exciting opportunity to combine his own chambers’ ‘national presence’ with Stone’s ‘reputation in London and overseas.’ The tie-up is well timed for mid-tier set Stone, which has hemorrhaged almost half its tenants in the last two years.
