Jenner & Block has announced the appointment of partner Craig C Martin as the firm’s next chair. Mr Martin, chair of Jenner & Block’s 400-lawyer litigation department, is a nationally recognized litigator who is a 30-year veteran at Jenner & Block.

Fourth chair-holder

Mr Martin said, ‘as I take the role of chair of Jenner & Block, our primary focus will continue to be on serving our clients in their most demanding engagements in high-stakes litigation, investigations, and transactions.’ In addition to his new role as chair, Mr Martin will continue to represent clients in disputes, investigations and governance matters in a wide range of substantive legal areas. He has represented Aon, General Dynamics, MacAndrews & Forbes, United Airlines and the Crown family, and many other prominent corporations. Mr Martin becomes only the fourth firm lawyer to serve as firm chair in Jenner & Block’s 105-year history.

Plaudits

Lester Crown, the long-time businessman, civic leader and Jenner & Block client who has known and worked with Mr Martin for decades, said ‘Craig is the right leader for Jenner & Block, and Jenner & Block has shown superb judgment by selecting him as chair.  Craig’s legal skills are first-rate, but uniquely, he brings a set of business judgment to everything he does that is unparalleled in my experience.’ Susan Levy, executive vice president, general counsel & corporate secretary of Northern Trust Corporation, who previously served as Jenner & Block’s managing partner, added “I’ve worked with Craig personally and have seen first-hand how he adds extraordinary value to the most complex situations through his intellect and insight.’
