Trowers & Hamlins booms outside the UK with 1,800 per cent profit explosion

International profits have skyrocketed to £1.9m at the firm.

The result is an important turnaround for the firm after non-UK profits plummeted 96 per cent from £1.25m to just £100,000 in 2014/15. But despite the spectacular profit recovery in the firm's non-UK arm – which includes offices in Dubai, Malaysia, Oman, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi – global profit stayed flat at the firm in 2015/16 due to a 9.2 per cent drop in UK profit to £17.6m. Global revenue was up 8 per cent to £85.6m, while non-UK revenue rose just 3.4 per cent to £15.2m after slipping 7.5 per cent the previous year. Senior partner Jennie Gubbins is now characterising the firm’s 2014/15 profit nosedive as ‘a blip’, telling The Lawyer that a pickup in both property and litigation work has helped nurse the firm’s international business back to health.
