US lawyers back Obama campaign

Anglo-US firm DLA Piper has emerged as one of President Barack Obama's biggest backers in an election heavily supported by law firms and lawyers.

President Obama: $15m campaign injection

The firm has contributed  $331,715 to his campaign, according to US news reports which reveal that presidential candidates have so far received nearly $25 million dollars from the legal industry.

However, this is only half the amount received from the legal market four years ago when law firms injected a massive $46.5 million to the campaign, according to the Business Insider website.

Of the $25m injected into the campaigns,  over $15m has gone to President Obama, while election rival Mitt Romney has fared less well with lawyers – receiving around $7 million.
