Women score low in equity stakes

Women are enjoying less opportunities in law firms than their male counterparts.

The path to partnership is a rocky one for women partners, according to figures just released from the National Association of Women Lawyers.

Whilst 70 per cent of the US’s largest law firms are female, only 15 per cent of equity partners are women, the Amercian Bar Association Journal said.

The report honed in on key factors which characterize female input – women have smaller books of business than their male colleagues even if their development efforts are significant. The report also revealed that whilst 50 per cent of firms’ associates were women, they only received 40 per cent of the bonuses.
