Pillsbury elects new chair as Chadbourne merger talks continue

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman is set to announce that Washington, DC-based partner David T. Dekker is its new chairman-elect. His election comes at a critical time for the firm, which is having exploratory talks with Chadbourne and Parke.

Chadbourne & Parke and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman would together become a top 50 US practice, with revenues of over $800m. The election of Mr Dekker is separate to any merger talks, but he believes that Pillsbury needs to expand.

He said: 'I think Pillsbury has a well-recognized name and an outstanding roster of attorneys, A-list clients and a strong balance sheet… but I also see that we have not grown as quickly as we would like to grow in terms of the amount of business we have.' Source: Bloomberg Business of Law
