On 19 November, a still-unknown vandal placed diagonal strips of black tape across the faces of Harvard Law School's tenured black faculty, a menacing gesture the day after Harvard students marched against enduring white supremacy and racism on the prestigious campus. At the time, Harvard Law School dean Martha Minow stated that the act of vandalism would be investigated by the police as a hate crime. Two months have since passed, and the investigation by the Harvard University Police Department has come up dry. A campus email from the school's dean of administration dated 8 January stated that the police had conducted numerous interviews and a forensic investigation, but had failed to uncover who had placed the tape across the portraits or what their motivation had been. The case is now closed 'pending further new and significant information', though the university email added that the incident remains 'deeply troubling'. Sources: Boston.com; ABC News; The Guardian
