TTIP demo planned today outside King & Spaldiing office in London

Global Justice Now is planning a demonstration at the office at 4.30pm today - to protest against the firm's work promoting the planned Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) with the US - through which employee rights could suffer.

Global Justice says on its website: 'King & Spalding are a corporate law firm representing Veolia in their battle against Egypt. Veolia are suing the country over the level of the minimum wage. This is a taste of what the EU-US trade deal TTIP could bring us if it is implemented.'

Public good

Under the TTIP treaties being negotiated by President Obama's administration, companies could take action against foreign governments if their profits were cut by unfavourable legislation. There is considerable criticism of them in some quarters on the grounds that it would make it harder for governments to act for the public good. Source: Global Justice Now
