Spanish firm Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira has appointed Jorge Badía, a member of its board of directors and coordinator of the Litigation and Arbitration practice, as its new managing partner. The senior partner, Rafael Fontana, announced the appointment at its shareholders meeting where it also announced seven new partners and four counsels. The appointment of the new managing partner takes place within the firm’s succession and corporate governance process - Rafael Fontana was appointed chairman last July. 

Management duties

The new managing partner will combine his professional career as a lawyer with his new management duties. Mr. Badía said of the appointment: 'I intend to continue working on the development of current projects from this new position. This will include more actively listening to our lawyers, our clients, and our environment. It’s a challenge I’m taking on with great enthusiasm and with the excitement of leading, together with Rafael Fontana, a fascinating project within the firm.'

Ambitious goals

Senior partner Rafael Fontana said: 'Jorge has the excellent qualities needed to be managing partner. He is a man well acquainted with our firm’s corporate culture, backed up by his achievements as a lawyer, and he has my trust, as well as that of the board of directors and the partnership. In his position until now, he has shown great management skills, leading innovative projects that have sometimes marked out the path for the rest of the firm. I am convinced that from his new position, Jorge will continue to work towards successfully reaching the ambitious goals we have set ourselves.' 

Commercial expert

Mr Badía is an expert in commercial litigation, specialising in disputes arising from M&A transactions, as well as shareholder disputes. He has experience in representing the boards of directors of companies in matters concerning directors’ liability and regularly advises clients on civil liability.
